This is the story of “Miranda” a Westerly Tempest yacht that we sold in 2019 through our brokerage service that has embarked on an epic adventure to New York.
The beginning:
In October 2011 we sold, through our used boat service, a 1987 Westerly Tempest to Mr & Mrs Day who decided to keep this lovely sailing yacht at Swale Marina in Kent. The previous owner had spent both time and money updating the yacht which had been sailed on the River Medway for a considerable number of years at the Medway Cruising Club.
Mr & Mrs Day continued to maintain and update the yacht through their ownership and spent a significant amount of time sailing this yacht along the East Coast and across to Northern Europe.
The start of the epic adventure
In 2019, Mr & Mrs Day decided to retire from sailing and their yacht was sold through Network Yacht Brokers Kent to Mr & Mrs Stevens. Not long after buying “Miranda” Mr Stevens wife was posted to New York with her company and the family moved, leaving “Miranda” in the UK. Scott said that his dream was to one day sail “Miranda” across the Atlantic to New York.
Well after a lot of preparation Scott’s dream turned into reality on the 5th November 2020. As he, plus two friends, set off on the 6,500 mile journey to New York. There trip will take them to Cape Verdi, then across the Atlantic to the Caribbean December 2020 in time for Christmas before sailing up the East Coast to New York.
A considerable amount of planning and work has gone into getting “Miranda” and her crew ready for such an epic trip. Full details of Scott’s preparations and photos of the work undertaken can be found on his website http://www.sv-miranda.com/ You can also track their progress over the coming weeks through there website.
We would like to wish them safe passage and we look forward to monitoring their progress.
